Release: Banana for Breakfast?

Sheraton Keauhou Bay Home to Big Island’s Newest Farmers Market

A new Farmers Market has recently debuted on the front lawn at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. The market is open from 8:00 a.m. until noon each Wednesday.  This market is now in addition to a Saturday morning farmers market at the nearby Keauhou Shopping Center.

Along with local farm-fresh fruit, produce, coffee, and flowers, vendors also offer craft products with primary ingredients or materials that come from Hawaii Island’s land or waters.

“Our Executive Chef Eric Lelinski can do his shopping practically at our front door on Wednesday mornings,” said Sheraton Keauhou Bay General Manager Tetsuji Yamazaki. “He returns to the kitchens with the absolute freshest produce imaginable and then comes up with creative ways to use his market finds on the menu at Kai restaurant that same evening. You can’t get food much closer to the land than that.”

While not shopping for produce during the Wednesday Keauhou Farmers Market, Chef Eric or one of his culinary team members may be found on hand demonstrating to market-goers how they might prepare some of the produce found at the market. Chef Eric can show the average cook how to incorporate ingredients such as rambutan, cooking bananas or fresh coconut in to a tasty, healthy home menu.

Kai serves up farm fresh dinners from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Wednesday and Saturday evenings feature specialty theme buffets of King Crab and Prime Rib respectively.
